But homo sapiens have been living in cities for thousands of years. Maybe even the cavemen (whether or not they insured their wheel with Geico) felt a need to live near the cave painters, stand-up storytellers, and late-night squirrel meat bar. The practical arguments against cities have been evident since the Black Plague in the 14th century, and made even more emphatic on August 6 and 9, 1945, and September 11, 2001, but I have seen no evidence human beings are inclined to give them up.
